See remarks below:
“I’m proud that President Trump has nominated Dr. Joe Jewell to be the Assistant Secretary of War forScience and Technology. The threat of China overtaking us in military technology has never been greater, and we need leaders like Dr. Jewell to help get us back on track.
Dr. Joseph Jewell is a professor at Purdue University in my home state of Indiana, focusing on hypersonics. At Purdue, he leads to the hypersonic Mach 6 Quiet Tunnel Research Group and the wind tunnel at the Purdue Applied Research Institute. Purdue’s partnership with Naval Surface Warfare
Center Crane has helped make Purdue a national leader in hypersonic research and development.
Dr. Jewell has also authored more than 150 published research papers in aerospace engineering and hypersonics, and his research has led to patents that advance our hypersonic capabilities. Dr. Jewell received his Ph.D. from Caltech and his master’s degree from Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. He has served as a subject matter expert on both classified and unclassified hypersonic programs, worked at the Air Force Research Laboratory, and serves on the Defense Science Study Group.
With Dr. Jewell joining what is already an outstanding research and engineering team led by Undersecretary Emil Michael, I know that America will meet the gravity of this moment. Dr. Jewell could not be more qualified for this role and position. He will make an outstanding Assistant Secretary of War for Science and Technology.”
