WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Jim Banks (R-Ind.) released the following statement after securing critical funding for Indiana priorities in President Trump’s reconciliation bill.
Following Congress’ passage of President Trump’s budget framework earlier this month, this legislation marks the second step in the reconciliation process on the path to “one big, beautiful bill”. It ensures the President has the resources he needs to extend the 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, boost defense spending, and strengthen security along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Funding secured by Senator Banks include:
- DOD Border Security Funding
- $5 billion for Department of Defense border security efforts, aligning with the $10 billion authorized in Senator Banks’ Border Security is National Security Act.
- MACH-TB Hypersonics Testing
- $400 million to accelerate the MACH-TB hypersonics testing program run out of NSWC Crane.
- Golden Dome Missile Defense Programs
- $7.2 billion for military space-based sensors, significantly boosting the fielding of hypersonic tracking satellites.
- Many space-based sensor satellites for enemy missiles are made in Fort Wayne.
- Nuclear Sea-Launched Cruise Missile (SLCM-N)
- $2 billion for missile development and $400 million for the nuclear warhead.
- Much of the development and testing of SLCM-N will be done at NSWC Crane.
- Sonobuoy Stockpile Support
- $80 million to replenish critical anti-submarine warfare sonobuoys.
- 60% of the Navy’s sonobuoys are made in Columbia City, Indiana.
- Army Wheeled Combat Vehicles
- $230 million for the procurement of Army wheeled combat vehicles.
- Transmissions for Army Stryker vehicles are made in Indianapolis.
- Hypersonics Industrial Base
- $42 million to strengthen the U.S. hypersonic solid rocket motor supply chain.
- Steel Industry Support
- $85 million for U.S.-made steel plate and $110 million for a new steel fabrication facility to support shipbuilding.
- Next-Generation Vertical Lift and Assault Aircraft
- $310 million to accelerate next-generation vertical lift aircraft production
- The engines for the Future Long-Range Assault Aircraft (FLRAA) will be made in Indianapolis.
Additionally, the bill contains:
- $9 billion for Servicemember Quality of Life: Increases pay and allowances; upgrades housing, healthcare, and family support.
- $34 billion for Shipbuilding and Maritime Base: Expands the Navy fleet, invests in autonomous tech, and upgrades shipbuilding infrastructure.
- $14 billion to Expedite Innovation to the Warfighter: Fast-tracks new technologies and delivers low-cost weapons to the battlefield.
- $13 billion for Nuclear Deterrence: Modernizes the nuclear triad, improves readiness, and rebuilds U.S. nuclear weapon manufacturing capacity.
- $12 billion to Enhance Military Readiness: Increases spare parts, upgrades depots and shipyards, and strengthens Special Forces capabilities.
- $11 billion for Pacific Deterrence: Boosts Indo-Pacific readiness, builds key infrastructure, and strengthens Taiwan’s defenses.
- $7 billion for Air Superiority: Reverses fighter jet shortages and accelerates next-gen aircraft and drone production.
- $400 million for Fiscal Responsibility: Requires audits of all funds, upgrades IT systems, and enhances DoD financial accountability with AI tools.
