WASHINGTON (WBAY) – A bipartisan push to strengthen “Buy America” rules could mean more federal dollars stay with U.S. factories and workers.
Wisconsin Democratic Sen. Tammy Baldwin and Indiana Republican Sen. Jim Banks are introducing the “Build America, Buy America Compliance Act.”
The compliance act would go after federal agencies that aren’t following “Buy America” rules when they spend infrastructure dollars.
The bill would make each agency file a report every year saying which programs are using American-made products, which programs aren’t, and how they intend to be in compliance.
The reports would be made public.
Baldwin says if taxpayers are footing the bill, the money should support American workers and companies, not factories in other countries, like China.
