WASHINGTON, D.C, – Today, Senator Jim Banks (R-Ind.) sent a letter to DHS Secretary Kristi Noem requesting an update on President Trump’s deportation efforts in Indiana. The letter cited recent traffic deaths and injuries allegedly caused by illegal aliens.
In part, the letter reads:
“These tragedies were entirely preventable. Every individual who crosses our borders illegally commits a crime. The vast majority of illegal aliens commit further crimes once they are in the United States. Most illegal aliens commit Social Security or document fraud; many steal government benefits, assault our citizens, and terrorize our communities. Many also unlawfully procure driver’s licenses and trucking
licenses—or simply drive without them—resulting in fatal accidents.
We must deport every one of them. The death of one American caused by an illegal alien is too many. President Biden and President Obama made every state, including Indiana, a border state. I applaud President Trump’s commitment to carrying out the largest deportation operation in American history, and I look forward to continuing to support your efforts in my great state. Hoosiers should not be forced to bear the consequences of open border policies any longer.”

Dear Secretary Noem:
I write to request an update on President Trump’s efforts to deport illegal aliens in Indiana. In the last two months, four of my constituents have been killed in car crashes involving illegal aliens. At least eight more have been seriously injured.
Five days before Thanksgiving, an elderly driver was killed in a hit-and-run caused by an illegal alien with a fraudulent green card. One day later, another illegal alien struck a husband and wife on their way to pick up their children from their grandparents’ house. This alien also did not have a driver’s license and was driving drunk. The husband and wife are both in critical condition.
Those accidents took place less than a week after an illegal alien from the country of Georgia driving a semi-truck caused a collision that killed a member of the Indiana National Guard and left three more Guardsmen hospitalized. The alien who caused the crash was granted a trucking license by the state of New York even though he had unlawfully crossed the southern border.
And in October, an illegal alien drove a semi-truck headfirst into a 54-year-old man in Northwest Indiana, killing him almost instantly. This driver was using a relative’s expired trucking license and had received tens of thousands of dollars in COVID-19 relief loans.
The Hoosiers harmed in these accidents are not the first whose lives have been jeopardized by mass migration. The Department of Homeland Security just spotlighted over one hundred criminal aliens arrested in Indiana, and those are just the “worst of the worst.”
These tragedies were entirely preventable.
Hoosiers should not be forced to bear the consequences of open border policies any longer.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter, and for your efforts to make America—and Indiana—safe again.
