WASHINGTON, D.C, – Today, Senator Jim Banks (R-Ind.) joined President Trump in the Oval Office for the announcement of the “Golden Dome” and delivered remarks on how the program and President Trump’s tariffs are benefiting Hoosiers.
On Indiana’s Role in Building the Golden Dome:
“Your legacy with Space Force, Mr. President is already big but the Golden Dome is going to be an even bigger legacy for our country and Indiana is going to help you make it. The space satellites that are made in Fort Wayne, Indiana by L3Harris. All the work done at Crane Navy base in Southern Indiana is going to be a big part of it and Hoosiers are very proud of that. We’re proud of you. Thank you very much.”
“In Fort Wayne, Indiana where I live, we make all the space satellites at L3Harris. Across the board we’re the top manufacturing state in the country. By the way, the tariffs have been very good for auto manufacturing, but this is going to be very good for defense industry in my state. There’s so much money involved here, there are going to be a lot of American companies involved in making the Golden Dome possible.”
On How President Trump’s Tariffs Are Delivering for Hoosiers:
“The new Honda Civic made in Indiana. GM is adding jobs. Eli Lilly moving pharmaceutical manufacturing from China to the United States. $27 billion. You could go on and on with good news in Indiana and across the country because of the tariffs.”
Background:
On January 27, President Trump signed an executive order directing the creation of a next-generation missile defense shield.
The order addresses the growing threat of advanced missile systems such as hypersonic, cruise, and ballistic missiles from adversaries like China and Russia. It also accelerates the development of space-based sensors and interceptors, strengthens supply chains, and deepens cooperation with U.S. allies.
In April, L3Harris Technologies completed a $125 million expansion of its 95,000-square-foot site Fort Wayne facility to support the Department of Defense’s Golden Dome missile defense initiative.
