Key Excerpts:
ON HEALTHCARE:
Sen. Banks: “President Trump did his job. He put out a concrete substantive plan to bring down the cost of health care for all Americans. And that’s the big takeaway here. The Democrats are pushing to extend the Obamacare COVID -level subsidies foranother three years.. The studies show us that that will only help about a half of 1% of the American people… I’m hearing from small business people. I’m hearing from farmers and families all over Indiana who are saying that their health care premiums are skyrocketing, and the Democrat plan will not help them at all. But President Trump’s plan, there are five pillars of it. It will create more competition, more transparency. It will expand health savings accounts for all Americans and send money to health savings accounts instead of to big insurance companies. His plan is very good, and now Congress needs to do his job and act and pass it. Unfortunately, a lot of the parts of President Trump’s plan were a part of the Senate Republican plan that every single Democrat voted against in the Senate just a month ago… So we got to put it back on the floor, vote for it again, and Democrats should come on board. Every part of President Trump’s plan is something that Democrats before President Trump would have gotten on board with. These are bipartisan ideas, but Democrats won’t vote for it because it’s President Trump’s plan, and in the process, a lot of people are getting hurt because of it.”
ON RECONCILIATION:
Sen. Banks: “…Reconciliation is one option. We can’t do everything that’s in President Trump’s plan with reconciliation because the rules prevent us from doing that. But we have to act now. We have to act quickly. President Trump has given us a framework to work with. And that’s the type of leadership that we’ve come to expect from the White House. And it’s time for Congress to act.”
ON IU FOOTBALL:
Sen. Banks: “I can’t wait. I have never been more excited about a sporting event than Monday night’s national championship football game. The Indiana Hoosiers. What a great story. You’re a Hoosier. I’m a Hoosier. When I was at Indiana University, they were so bad at football that they gave away free tickets just to get students in the stands. This season has been so magical, so much fun for our home state.”
