Sen. Jim Banks, Whitko Community Schools dedicate new junior high wing

SOUTH WHITLEY, Ind. (WFFT) — U.S. Senator Jim Banks (R-Ind.) was back in Northeast Indiana on Monday to help dedicate the completion of an expansion and renovation project for the Whitko Community School Corportation (W.C.S.C.)

“It’s a trip down memory lane for me to come back here,” Sen. Banks says. “I love this community and the people that make it what it is.”

Sen. Banks spoke alongside W.C.S.C. leaders about the opening of a new junior high wing at Whitko Jr./Sr. High School. The renovated space includes new classrooms, educational equipment, lockers, and an outdoor courtyard. The junior high wing is designed specifically for sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade students.

“Anytime you have a new facility and new rooms, new classrooms, new equipment – that’s good for the kids but it’s also good for the teachers and everyone involved in providing the best possible education and opportunity for the kids that come through here,” Sen. Banks says.

Senator Banks graduated from the former Whitko Middle School in South Whitley. The school moved to Larwill in 2015, before closing three years later. Since 2018, seventh and eighth-graders have attended Whitko Junior High School, while sixth-graders have studied at one of W.C.S.C.’s two elementary schools.
