Sen. Jim Banks of Indiana has launched the Truck Safety Tipline, an online portal for truckers to report carriers hiring drivers who are not legally in the country. Launched just weeks ago, the tip line forwards reports directly to the U.S. Department of Transportation for review.
“Indiana is the crossroads of America, so you have semi-trucks crossing through highways in Indiana every day, and now more and more of these semi-trucks are being driven by illegals,” Banks said.
To make a tip, visit banks.senate.gov and select the Truck Safety Tipline option from the top menu. The tipline asks for some required personal information and an option to describe the complaint or concern, along with supplemental information.
Banks said this information will be used to penalize not just the fraudulent drivers, but also the schools and states providing these bogus CDLs.
“I’ve been working with the Department of Transportation Secretary Duffy to figure out how do we go in and crack down on these schools that give fake certificates to illegals and then they use that to get a CDL, crack down on the states that are giving CDLs to illegals,” Banks said.
Banks said he will remain outspoken on this issue and appreciates the efforts of the Indiana Statehouse for taking it seriously.
