Jim Banks exhibit unveiled at museum

COLUMBIA CITY – Sen. Jim Banks, R-Ind., delivered remarks at the Whitley County Historical Society Annual Banquet Saturday at Eagle Glen Event Center.

Shortly after, he officially unveiled the Congressman Jim Banks Exhibit at the Whitley County Historical Museum.

“I love history, politics and my hometown,” Banks said. “The collection has over two dozen boxes and binders of items from my time on the County Council, at the Statehouse, and in Congress. It includes letters from presidents, generals and cabinet secretaries, memorabilia from my time as Republican Study Chairman, and more that offer a behind-the-scenes look at Capitol Hill.”

The Whitley County Museum is located at 108 W. Jefferson St., Columbia City, open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Banks was born and raised in Columbia City, Whitley County. He previously chaired the Whitley County Republican Party, served on the Whitley County Council (2008–10), and served in the Indiana State Senate before his time in Congress. Senator Banks served in the U.S. House of Representatives for four terms before he was elected to the U.S. Senate in 2024.

“I wouldn’t be where I am today if it wasn’t for support from my hometown so I’m grateful to share these items with the museum,” said Banks. “I hope this collection gives the community a closer look at history and maybe even inspires another kid from Columbia City to get involved with public service.”

The museum is the former home of Thomas Riley Marshall, Indiana governor and 28th vice president of the United States. It tells Marshall’s story, as well as that of Whitley County and its people.
