Fort Wayne’s L3 Harris to produce Space Force satellites

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – A Fort Wayne manufacturing facility was chosen by the U.S. Space Force Space Development Agency to produce 18 satellites.

L3 Harris Technologies, Inc., was selected to create satellites for President Donald Trump’s Golden Dome missile defense system project. The satellites, dubbed the Hypersonic and Ballistic Tracking Space Sensor (HBTSS), collect data for tracking missiles.

The satellites’ production is valued at approximately $955 million, and will be manufactured in the L3 Harris facility at 1919 W Cook Road.

The appointment is part of the Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act, according to Senator Jim Banks’ office. The provisions of the act secured by Senator Banks include millions of dollars invested in military construction projects throughout Indiana.
